ANIMAL IN RESEARCH AND USE OF ANIMALS IN EDUCATION

Jeevashram is opposed to all experiments or procedures which cause pain, suffering or distress. Jeevashram is opposed to animal experiment, which involve unnecessary repition, scientifically travails ends, or techniques to which satisfactory alternatives, not usingliving animals have already developed. We are opposed to the use of animals in the testing of inessential substances, such as, beauty preparations, some household products and food additives.

ALTERNATIVES :

We support the development of techniques that will result in the replacement, reduction or refinement of animal experiments, the concept of the '3Rs'. Jeevashram regards as an advance any technique, which will completely.

• REPLACE the use of animals
• REDUCE the numbers used or reduce suffering or otherwise improve laboratory animal welfare.
• REFINEMENT of conditions of use would include use of analgesics and providing animals with enriched environments, allowing them to express natural behaviors.

The long-term aim however remains to completely replace animals in laboratories with alternatives techniques. In India thee committee for the purpose of control and supervision of experiments on animals (CPCSEA) under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has been set up to control animal experimentation.

DISSECTION is now optional in India.

Jeevashram advocates the creation and use of education resources, which provide alternatives to dissection.
